The portable stitch: An intuitive Textile Journal

We use improvisation and raw edge hand-stitching to create a stitch journal as collage, that is true to the maker’s style and compliments sustainable living. Every stitch is imbued with memory and the goal is to create with Intention over perfection. Textures and colors will emerge to inspire makers to take these techniques and apply them to uplift and/or mend wardrobes and home décor.

This workshop aligns with the Japanese philosophies of wabi-sabi and Mottainai: embracing the idea that perfection is unattainable and accepting the work that our hands produce, while respecting the life of the materials that we work with. Every week we explore a design tool/technique to help us stay connected to our craft.

A kit will serve as the initial inspiration but students will have an opportunity to add their own individual touches by selecting textiles of personal significance.

https://madisoncollege.edu/academics/professional-continuing-education/artVia Zoom everyone can join!

All Materials will be kitted. Join us from the comfort of your home as we delve into a world of Art, Meditation and Creativity, where we “Making becomes joyful.”

This workshop will run from March 20th - April 17
